Soft tissue lasers are used to safely remove soft tissue. A soft tissue laser can be used to remove excess gum tissue, infected tissue, and perform some biopsies. Soft tissues are also widely used to perform frenectomies (removal of a mucous membrane).
Advantages of a soft tissue laser
No general anesthesia is required and local anesthetic (numbing) is not always necessary. Laser procedures are relatively quick and a soft tissue laser reduces the risk of bleeding and inflammation. Healing time is quicker and there is less post-operative discomfort than when compared to traditional methods of removing tissue which require a scalpel.
